Archive 005 — The Grove

Before it was simply known as part of Barrie’s East End, much of the neighbourhood was known as The Grove—roughly the area between Bayfield and Oak streets, from Grove Street south toward Penetang, Codrington, McDonald and Sophia.

The name referred not to a single park or landmark, but to a broader residential neighbourhood shaped by old homes, mature trees, steep streets and generations of everyday life. Many of the streets and houses that defined The Grove are still there, even if the name itself is no longer used as widely as it once was.

For longtime residents, it is one of those local names that carries more than geography. It brings to mind porches, gardens, familiar routes home and a part of Barrie that grew slowly over time rather than all at once.

The Grove Tee preserves that earlier neighbourhood name in a restrained archival design, using a simple house icon and understated typography as a quiet nod to the area’s residential history.

How to measure: Lay a similar shirt flat. Measure the body width one inch below the armhole, and measure the body length from the centre-back neckline seam to the bottom hem.
