Nelson Lookout is one of those East End places that barely needs explaining if you grew up nearby.

It sits where Codrington meets the drop toward the lake — a small patch of green, a few benches, a long set of stairs, and one of the best views back across Kempenfelt Bay.

The height is part of the story. Nelson Lookout sits along a terrace left behind by ancient Lake Algonquin, the glacial lake that once covered this part of Ontario. That old shoreline is what gives the East End its lift above the waterfront and gives the lookout its view.

But locally, the place is less about geology than familiarity.
